Our town's resident swan has returned from her winter home. Last year was a tragedy when her mate was killed in a mishap with a stealthy not-so-friendly animal. To the town's people delight a new second bird returned with our resident swan. It seems the pair had become inseparable over the time they spent together in their winter quarters.

Local people became excited with the possibility of these two nesting and starting a family. After all, they would be so cute to watch with their young as they floated around our lazy river throughout the summer months.
Until...last weeks front page story in our newspaper. It seems Samantha is also a Samuel. Sam our female swan has both sex organs of a female and male. The town's hopes of a swan family took a nose dive quickly.
Last week the headlines in the paper were that the crime rate in our town was down, and the unfortunate turn of events with Sam. Don't you just love small town living?
