Espadrilles from the Espadrille Store.com have been handcrafted in a small village of Spain for many generations. These classic spanish shoes are made of cotton or linen fabric with a flexible jute rope sole and symbolize an ecological, easy going and dynamic lifestyle.

Espadrilles are made by hand in a small village in Spain, by one of many grandmothers, using an ancestral technique. Many of the crafters assemble the shoes in the comfort of their own homes, with all the materials delivered right to their doors.

The jute thread spins and forms the rope used to make the soles of the espadrilles. The braiding machines date back to the 1950's.
Hand sewing is the key to a solid espadrille. In order to finish the sole, natural rubber will be vulcanized to the jute with the help of a heated mold. The rubber sole will solidify the jute and provide a good grip to the sole.
I was sent a pretty pair of lilac coloured espadrilles. I loved the beautiful spring time colour. I have never worn a pair of espadrilles before and had no idea the treat I was in for.
Once slipping the shoes on, there was no adjustment or break-in period. Right away my feet felt comfortable. I liked the way the espadrille fit snugly, but comfortably to my foot. I was initially worried that I would be feeling every stone with the jute sole, so I put it to the test. I walked out on our gravel driveway and I was happy there was no difference wearing espadrilles, as compared to other sandals or flip flops.
My favourite aspect is that I can wear my espadrilles for hours on end, and my feet don't become hot...these shoes can really breath. The workmanship is excellent...nothing like you find in today's manufactured shoes. I love the authenticity of the espadrille and the eco-friendliness of them. These are great spring and summertime shoes to slip on and enjoy your day in style and comfort.
