SMART Love of Learning

As we are about to move into a brand new school this coming Fall, I am so excited to share that each and every classroom is going to be equipped with Smartboards!

Smartboards are interactive whiteboards which work with a computer, and can be controlled by touching the screen. Gone are the days of messing chalk and bulky overhead projectors. Every time I have been in the school this past year I found smartboards in use in the classrooms. From what I was seeing the kids are enthusiastically interacting at the smartboards and learning looks fun!

Still not sure what a smartboard is? Check out The Magical Classroom.

While I am excited about our new school having the smartboards in place, there are schools and classrooms which could still use them. If you know of a classroom in need of a smartboard be sure to enter to win them one. You can enter to win a smartboard for your own child's school or if you don't have school age children you can enter to win and send a smartboard in the direction of a school in need. Join in the facebook discussion @SMART Love of Learning. While visiting the facebook group find tips on how to fundraise to purchase a smartboard, and be sure to enter to win!

Smartboards are a great teaching tool, but the classroom teacher is the anchor and sets the tone for the way a classroom runs. There are many great teachers out there and we are especially blessed at our school to have many wonderful, caring teachers.

When I asked my son, (who is in grade one) who he thought the best teacher in the world is, he jumped up and down and said Miss B! Miss B is his grade one teacher and she has given him an amazing start to his full-time school career.

Miss B is the best teacher because she has made learning fun. She knows how to engage the students and motivate them to do their best, what ever they are working on. Matthew struggled with having the concentration to learn to read, Miss B. knew the strategies to use to help him learn to read. The difference between a good and great teacher is how you remember them as you leave their classroom, and if you are able to take what you have learned and continue learning with the strategies they taught.

If I ask Matthew why he thinks Miss B is the best teacher in the world, he says - She just is! And, that to me, says it all. I think he will remember Miss B as a teacher who gave him a great year and laid the stepping stones for a life-long desire for learning.
