It is truly a pleasure to welcome Earth Divas to Country Mouse, City Mouse. Ed, the owner of Earth Divas is the epitome of good-will and is diligently working to provide better lives for women who craft the items for sale in his shop. Ed doesn't take a profit from Earth Divas, at the end of the year he returns the profits to his workers!
Earth Divas products are handmade, natural fiver, fair trade accessories made by women, for women from around the world. Currently they have items from Nepal, and are adding jewelry from Columbia and hemp bags from Thailand.
Upon visiting Earth Divas I was greeted with an assortment of handmade items. Earth Divas has beautiful bags, cute jewelry, and even great gift ideas for kids (puppets and dolls). Prices are very reasonable and knowing that your purchase from Earth Divas is supporting hard-working ladies a world away makes shopping at Earth Divas an amazing experience. The power of the internet has given us the opportunity to be a global community and Earth Divas is using it in a positive way that is changing lives. [Can you tell I am so honoured to have Earth Divas joining us at my blog?] Most products for sale at Earth Divas is made from natural hemp, or organic cotton, and/or recycled silk.
Receiving the deep blue hemp handbag was a highlight at the end of the summer. I have never owned anything made from hemp, so I was quite curious about it. This bag was made in the remote hills of the Himilyanan, where it was woven by hand. Looking at and feeling the bag transports me to a world I will never know, but one where I know my bag was made with care and pride.
The blue of the bag makes it perfect for four season use. The silver grommets add nicely to the detail of the handbag. And, I know that Ed would of helped find those grommets from a source that was also fair trade. In fact, Ed works directly with all the crafters, and offers suggestions on ways to improve their finished products. Ed eliminates a middleman, which in the end benefits everyone - the crafters and the consumers.
My blue hemp bag has a great natural feel about it. It is very well made and I know it is produced with care by hand...so it is unique. It is a very easy bag to handle and wear, since it has nice wide (and long) shoulder straps. Great silver details add to the personality of the bag. The many zippers keep your belongings safe and secure inside.
Earth Divas has knocked my socks off...great products, fair trade made, exceptional value...doesn't get much better than this! Check them out.
