With every stage in a child's development there are challenges. One of the biggest challenges I have encountered in early childhood is the struggle over potty training.
Why is it that some kids just seem to get it, while others...not so much? I can triumphantly say that I have conquered potty training three times. But, it didn't come easy.
We tried it all at our house. Stickers, treats, books to read, singing songs, big (boy/girl) underwear, and different potty chairs. While some strategies seem to work, others seemed to work periodically. But in the end, a lot of times potty training comes down to a power struggle. After all for this one the child is holding all the power. We as parents can be diligent, enthusiastic participants but ultimately it is up to the child when they are ready to rid the diapers.
Over the last several months Jillian and I have found ourselves singing and dancing to The Potty Dance! And, it is really catching on with the two to four year old set. A celebration is the best way to show how triumphant one is when they are successfully toilet training.
The Potty Dance should be used as a training tool. No matter your stage (talking about it, mid-training, or fully trained), celebrate your milestones with a little dance. After all, music and dancing with kids can't help but put a smile on your face.
What better way to celebrate than shake your booty and dance the Potty Dance. I warn you though, once you start you can't stop...it is a pretty catchy tune.
