Frederico, the Mouse Violinist by Mayra Calvani {giveaway}

Welcome back to Country Mouse, City Mouse Mayra Calvani! Mayra made available one of her books - The Magic Violin as a giveaway prize during my holiday event. Now, she is back to introduce us to her newest book, Frederico, the Mouse Violinist.

Frederico is a tiny mouse with a big dream - he wants to become a violinist. Each day he watches as Stradivari makes his famous violins. Each night, he sneaks into the workshop to play. But, the violins are too big! Then, unbeknown to Frederico, Stradivari sees him playing and begins carving a tiny device. Could it be a famous Strad especially for Frederico?

Jillian and I enjoyed reading and looking at the pictures in this endearing book. It is the kind of story which completely warms your heart. I loved that I was teaching my young daughter about violins (I learned about violins while reading this book too). As I read the story we noticed that there was some words in bold, and then at the back of book we found a glossary, with meanings to the bold words.

The story itself is very sweet, as are the illustrations by K.C. Snider. Mayra has the ability to pull the reader into the story and as you read you feel you are right in the midst of the book. We felt as excited as the little mouse must of been, wondering what was being carved.

My kids just enjoyed an orchestra at their school, where they were treated to music, as well as learning about and being able to touch and feel the instruments. I think musical instruction is very important, and a book like Frederico, the Mouse Violinist might just be what a young child needs to spark an interest.

At the end of the book, there is an interactive section. It has a word find and a match game.
